The presentation marks a significant milestone in her artistic journey, as it will be the first time she brings together various elements from her diverse practices into one cohesive presentation. This exhibition will feature an array of works, including silkscreen prints on paper and panel, large-scale sculptures, and mixed media pieces that span the last five years of her career. The exhibition coincides with the artist’s participation in the group show Craft Front & Center: Conversation Pieces at Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
Biddle’s work often explores themes of interiority, both literal and metaphorical, drawing connections between the physical and emotional landscapes we inhabit. Her abstract ceramic and glass forms evoke a sense of timelessness, as they appear to be ancient artifacts or objects from a distant future. These sculptures, with their tactile surfaces bearing visible fingerprints and squeeze marks, emphasize the artist’s direct, hands-on approach. The exhibition also delves into the symbolic use of snakes, which Biddle interprets as metaphors for regeneration and resilience. These serpentine forms meander through her work, embodying the dualities of life and death, and the fluidity between extremes.
Visitors can expect a rich, multi-sensory experience, with the gallery space divided into contrasting “day” and “night” rooms. The front room will showcase the more luminous and vibrant aspects of Biddle’s work, while the back room will present a darker, more introspective ambiance, with elements like hanging black silk and moody prints. Overall, the exhibition offers a glimpse into Biddle’s “visual diary,” a parallel universe where her inner thoughts and emotions are externalized through her art. This show is an invitation to explore the intersections of abstraction and representation, light and dark, past and future, all through the lens of Biddle’s unique artistic vision.
